The British Invasion Continues: Ian Wright-Mix

Im Februar war Ian Wright bei uns in Berlin im Bohannon zu Gast um ein Set zu spielen. Ian besitzt, zuverlässigen Quellen zufolge, die fetteste und rarste funk 45 Sammlung weltweit. Das hört man auch seinem Set an.

Ian fing an, Scheiben zu sammeln, als in den späten 80er Jahren in England die Rare Groove Szene gerade aufzukeimen begann. In den folgenden Jahren vervollständigte er seine Funk45-Kollektion. 1995 eröffnete er zusammen mit Keb Darge einen Nachtclub, den sie „Deep Funk“ nannten. Doch er zog sich bald zurück und begann eher im Hintergrund zu arbeiten, so re-mixte und re-editierte er ein paar Funk 45s für Kebs Deep Funk und Funk Spektrum Compilations.

Im Jahr 2000 stellte er dann selbst einen bahnbrechenden Sampler zusammen: „Sister Funk“, eine State-Of-The Art Compilation, die 20 Soul-Sister Funk Bomben der Blaxploitation Ära vereint. Die Doppel-LP mit den teuersten Sister-Funk Scheiben klingt ausserdem besser, als die meisten Re-Issues auf Single. Das liegt an dem fantastischen Mastering der Tracks, das er wahrscheinlich selbst beaufsichtigt hat: Laut, dynamisch und genug Platz für die Nadel.
